Zhangjiajie Forest Park in Northern Hunan province is a large sandstone area where erosion has produced striking sceneries of vertical pinnacles sometimes hundreds of meters high. The scenery appears in many traditional Chinese paintings and the area was made a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1992. We have rarely seen such thick mists as those which would sometimes roll into the densely vegetated valleys of Zhangjiajie without warning… with preciptious cliffs beside the walking trails it’s not a place to go hiking off-piste if you’re unfamiliar with the area!
